#TECH: Robot at your service

BUILT with a local mapping system and laser trace detection technology, the MMX Prime S7000 robot vacuum cleaner is a useful appliance that remembers to clean every nook and cranny of your house.

Utilising an ultra-high configuration laser imaging, detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensor, together with a simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) system for navigation, users don't have to worry about the device missing a spot or getting stuck between furniture and tight corners.

The robot vacuum cleaner is purposely designed to weigh 3kg because this will give it the sturdiness to do its job.

Vacuuming requires a lot of elbow grease, and you need to push the sweeper on the floor to create a "vacuum zone" that ensures all the dirt gets sucked up. If this robot vacuum cleaner were to move around "lightly", it will not be able to create an effective vacuum zone, and the floor will remain dirty.

However, you won't notice the weight because it moves on its own most of the time and doesn't need to be carried back to its storage area once it finished its chores.

TWO-IN-ONE KIND

I always like appliances with multiple functions. I own a washer-dryer as it is able wash and dry my clothes at the same time.

Thus I love the MMX Prime S7000 robot vacuum cleaner as it not only cleans my house on a routine, it is also capable of mopping up spills.

As more robot vacuum cleaners in the market feature dual functionality, what makes this one stand out? It's the ability to do "deep clean".

As far as I can tell, the device cleans fairly well, thanks to its enormous 5,000Pa suction power, which is good as no dirt gets left behind. And it also has a large capacity water tank — 350ml to be precise — to mop up a spill.

According to the manual, the MMX Prime S7000 uses a unique wet mopping function that covers a Y-shaped area when cleaning up spills.

THE SMART FEATURE

What would a smart appliance be if it is not "smart" enough to do its job?

The "brain" of this robot vacuum cleaner is an Epson chip that controls a Nidec motor. It has four cleaning modes — "entire house", "configured zone", "Pin N Go cleaning" and "restricted zones".

What I like about this robot is that it can save up to five maps at a time. The maps may comprise different rooms on different floors that guide the robot where to clean effectively.

For example, if I need to clean the living room over the weekend, all I need to do is to retrieve its map and programme it into the device. If the layout of the room has changed, the map can be adjusted and restored in its memory.

When the MMX Prime S7000's batteries run low, it will automatically return to its docking station and continue with its cleaning once it is fully recharged.

Just like other smart devices, the robot vacuum cleaner comes with an app to programme its tasks.

From the app, users can set its cleaning schedule, adjust the suction power and connect it to a smart home system.

WHERE TO BUY

When it was time to return the robot after testing it in my studio apartment for a week, I began to miss how convenient it was in making my life easy. It was such a great help in keeping my place clean during a hectic week.

The MMX Prime S7000 is available at the MMX Malaysia official store in Shopee at a retail price of RM2,477.
