DSEPITE being first released in 2016, Google Pixel phones have never been available in the Asia-Pacific market, including Malaysia - until now.
The wait is nearly over for Malaysians, as Google has announced that its AI-powered Pixel devices will be available in Malaysia starting Aug 22.
Not only that, but Malaysia will also be the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to receive Pixel products since their debut in 2016.
According to Google, three phones will be available: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Rumours of Google phones coming to Malaysia began earlier this month when CelcomDigi posted a 30-second teaser highlighting the Pixel 9's AI capabilities. Previously, Google Malaysia shared the same video on X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, teasing the long-awaited phone.
So, what can consumers expect from these new devices from Google?
As expected, AI will take center stage in the new Pixel phones.
According to Google, placing AI at the forefront will provide users with a more personalised experience.
The latest Pixel phones are powered by the fourth generation of Google silicon, Tensor G4 - Google's fastest and most efficient chip yet - optimised to run even the largest and most complex mobile machine learning models.
In addition to their AI capabilities, Pixel phones continue to offer iconic design, a best-in-class camera experience, and a host of brand-new features.
Design-wise, the Pixel 9 series has an elevated new look that puts the camera front and centre with an evolution of the iconic camera bar.
The sculpted design features a silky matte glass back and polished metal sides for a distinctly premium feel.
In terms of cameras, the Pixel 9 phones receive significant updates, including an all-new selfie camera on the Pro models (42 MP, 102-degree FOV) and an upgraded ultra-wide camera on the Pixel 9 (48 MP) for better Macro Focus shots.
The Pro models boast a Super Actua display (3000 nits for the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro), while the Pixel 9's Actua Display is 35 per cent brighter this year (2700 nits).
The phones also offer significant RAM upgrades: 16GB for the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro, and 12GB for the Pixel 9.
Alongside the Pixel 9 phones, Google will also be offering the Pixel Watch 3 and the Pixel Buds Pro 2.
The Pixel 9 will be available from RM3,999, the Pixel 9 Pro from RM5,199, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL from RM5,699.
