#TECH: Slimmer and more powerful iMac

APPLE has announced the latest iMac, equipped with the powerful M4 chip and comes in an ultra-thin design.

The company said the new M4 chip boosts iMac's speed by up to 1.7 times for daily tasks and up to 2.1 times for demanding workflows like photo editing and gaming, compared to the M1-powered iMac.1 With its advanced Neural Engine, the M4 iMac is hailed as the world's best all-in-one for AI and supports Apple Intelligence, a personal system transforming users' productivity, communication, and self-expression with privacy at its core.

Available in a range of vibrant new colours, the iMac also boasts a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with an optional nano-texture glass finish.2 It features a new 12MP Centre Stage camera with Desk View, up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports,3 and colour-coordinated USB-C accessories.

"The iMac is cherished by millions, from families at home to hard-working entrepreneurs. With the performance leap brought by Apple silicon, the new iMac sets a new benchmark," said Apple senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus.

"With the M4 chip, striking new colours that enhance any space, an advanced 12MP Centre Stage camera, and an optional nano-texture display, it's a whole new chapter for iMac," he said.

More power

The M4 chip is said to offer a significant performance boost to iMac. With an enhanced CPU featuring the world's fastest core, the new iMac is up to 1.7 times faster than the M1 iMac.

This performance boost will be noticeable in everyday tasks such as multitasking across apps and browsing with Safari. The advanced GPU, based on Apple's cutting-edge graphics architecture, makes the iMac with M4 up to 2.1 times faster for intensive tasks like photo editing and gaming compared to the M1 model.

Users can expect smoother gameplay in titles like the upcoming Civilization VII. Standard with 16GB of high-speed unified memory and configurable up to 32GB, the M4's Neural Engine is over three times faster than in the M1 iMac, establishing it as the top AI-equipped all-in-one and enhancing users' workflow efficiency.

Users can experience up to 1.7 times faster performance1 in applications like Microsoft Excel, and up to 1.5 times faster browsing in Safari, compared to the M1 iMac.

Gamers enjoy remarkably smooth gameplay with up to double the frame rate versus the M1 iMac.

Content creators see up to 2.1 times faster editing when applying complex effects in Adobe Photoshop1 and Adobe Premiere Pro5 compared to the M1 iMac.

Compared to the most popular 24-inch all-in-one PC featuring Intel's latest Core 7 processor, the new iMac is up to 4.5 times faster.

Compared to the most popular Intel-based iMac, the new iMac is up to six times faster.

New colours

The new iMac is available in seven striking colours: fresh shades of green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and blue, as well as silver. The iMac's back showcases bold colours, while the front displays softer tones to help users concentrate on their work. Every iMac also comes with a colour-matched Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse or an optional Magic Trackpad, all now featuring USB-C ports for convenient charging with a single cable.

The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, one of iMac's most praised features, now offers an optional nano-texture glass finish that significantly reduces reflections and glare while preserving image clarity.2 This option enables users to place the iMac in brighter settings, such as sunlit living rooms or well-lit storefronts.

The new iMac starts from RM5,799 and will be available soon with 16GB of unified memory as standard.
