He conquered the red carpet at the 89th Oscars in Los Angeles, the United States, recently and, now, comedian and television host Nabil Ahmad is ready for another roller-coaster ride in his career.
Having started his production house, Nabil Production, the 34-year-old, who is the company’s director, scriptwriter and producer, is producing a new sitcom called Bus Setop, which will air on Astro Warna on June 1.
“I’m nervous, but thankful to Astro for giving me the chance to create my own work.
“To work behind the camera is my long-term career plan, as I wouldn’t want to stay in the limelight for too long.
“I believe that you should stop before people stop you!
“I wouldn’t say that I want to retire from the spotlight any time soon, but this is what I see myself doing in the future.
“I’m one of Astro’s talents and they have plans for me as I am tied up with Astro until 2019.
“So, they are giving me this opportunity to showcase my skills other than hosting,” said Nabil, who has been part of Astro’s stable of artistes since 2012, at the launch of HBO Sentral’s Season 4 in Ruyi & Lyn restaurant, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, recently.
Season 4 sees him returning as the host.
The 13-episode Bus Setop marks Nabil Production’s first project.
Starring Sherry Al-Hadad, Ebby Yus, Angah Raja Lawak and Ippo Hafiz, among others, there will also be guest artistes, such as actor and rock star Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman or Awie, and actress Nabila Huda.
Since Nabil started the production house with his friends six months ago, there have been several projects in the pipeline.
“I’m thrilled for what’s to come. I feel that after my experience at the Oscars, there is nothing I cannot do.
“I’m super confident now,” said Nabil, who rose to popularity after winning Raja Lawak Season 2 in 2008.
HBO Sentral is a TV programme that serves as a fun, interactive guide to Hollywood movies and award-winning HBO Originals showcased on Astro.
Lisa Surihani was hosting the show’s Season 1 before Nabil took over.
