KUALA LUMPUR: Businessman Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin, tied the knot with Indonesian actress Laudya Cynthia Bella at 6.57pm today.
Engku Emran, 42, and Bella, 29, were married in a simple akad nikah (solemnisation) ceremony in which he presented her with five trays of ‘hantaran’ (wedding gifts), while she gave him seven in return.
The ceremony was completed with a single ‘lafaz’ (declaration) from Engku Emran, witnessed by their family members and close friends.
In a statement, Engku Emran and Bella thanked fans and the media for giving them the chance to conduct the ceremony behind closed doors, and they expressed hope that it would end all speculation about them in social media.
The couple also had a small reception with family and friends this evening.
"We greatly appreciate the cooperation and support from the media, and we pray our marriage will be blessed by God for all time," the couple said in their statement.
The couple were introduced months ago by actress Nora Danish, who was Bella’s co-star in Surga Yang Tak Dirindukan 2.
Engku Emran was once married to popular actress and singer Erra Fazira.
