LAST June, award-winning rapper Altimet revealed he had been roped in by the producers of OlaBola The Musical to contribute rap lyrics to the tunes in the musical.
The musical’s producer, Enfiniti, however, has recently revealed that the artiste would have a role in the musical that is based on last year’s box-office hit movie, OlaBola.
“It wasn’t my call (to announce it earlier),” said the Petaling Jaya-born star in an interview with the New Straits Times.
Making his theatrical performance debut in the musical, Altimet will be playing Drill Sergeant Ahmad.
“It’s a small part. I hope to learn and perform at a level acceptable to my far more experienced colleagues. I’ll do my best to keep up with them. I’m thrilled that I am able to take on new skills and crafts that are outside my comfort zone,” said the 38-year-old multi-talented artiste.
Previously, Altimet has guest-starred in Astro TVIQ’s educational comedy Oh My English! After School, Astro Oasis’ drama series PU Wid and Astro Warna’s reality show Super Spontan Superstar 2016.
Also making their stage debut are two stars from OlaBola, Muhd Luqman Hafidz and Lim Jian Wen, who will be reprising their roles as Ahmad Ali and Ong Tiam Cai, respectively.
Joining them are Brian Chan (playing Chow Kwok Keong or “Tauke”), Abimanyu Masilamani (Muthu Kumar) and Kai Chalmers (Eric Yong).
The three are no strangers to the performing arts, having starred in various productions, including Uda Dan Dara 2015, Sand The Musical and MUD: The Story Of Kuala Lumpur, respectively.
These six actors are among 40 members of the musical cast, selected from a casting call held last August. The audition saw some 300 hopefuls.
Enfiniti is expected to announce the full cast in the coming months.
The first radio single from the musical, Luarbiasa, will premiere on Era FM’s Super 40 ERA show today before it is played across all national radio channels from tomorrow.
Directed by award-winning producer-actress Puan Sri Tiara Jacquelina, OlaBola The Musical will be staged at Istana Budaya from Feb 8 to March 11.
Ticketing details will be released soon. For more updates, visit www.olabolamusical.com or follow Enfiniti’s Facebook page and Instagram.
