KUALA LUMPUR: Blues Gang founding member and guitarist Jim Madasamy is ill with primary progressive aphasia, a neurological syndrome which impairs language capability.
Fortunately, help is on the way for the 67-year-old who urgently needs therapy to improve his ability to communicate and manage the illness. His fellow bandmates and close friends are organising a special rock showcase on Nov 19 to raise funds for his treatment, and it will be held at Timbre KL, Jalan Doraisamy from 6 to 11pm.
The event's organiser M. Ganeshwaran, an old friend of Madasamy, said Blues Gang will be the main performers at the showcase, which is titled Jam For Jim Blues Gang - The True Blues Man.
"We expect 100 to 200 people to attend the showcase, and Jim will also be there. He's contributed a lot to Malaysian music, and now that he's unwell, we've got to do all that we can to help him get better," he told the New Straits Times today.
Besides Blues Gang, the Purple Haze Band, which was co-founded by Madasamy, Sons Of Adam and The Nobodys will also be performing. In addition there will be a jam session for individual musicians.
