KUALA LUMPUR: American singer Tiffany Hwang made an appearance at an opening event for Italian fashion brand Bottega Veneta in Hong Kong last Thursday.
According to Koreaboo, she had revealed her upcoming career plans as a solo artiste after deciding last October to discontinue as a member of Girls’ Generation, the world’s most renowned K-Pop girl group.
“I’ve moved back to (my hometown in) Los Angeles. I’ve started attending acting school in September and I’m waiting for winter break,” said the 28-year-old.
“In January, it will be pilot and audition season in L.A. so I’m looking forward to attending auditions.
“If I ever get to choose, I’d like to work with Hong Kong-American actor Daniel Wu,” she said.
Hwang added that she had always wanted to try acting, which prompted her to gain a strong foundation by attending an acting school.
She also revealed that she had started working on music as well and hoped to release some tunes next year.
The star also took the opportunity to thank fans of Girls’ Generation for their support throughout the years.
“I can’t thank you guys enough. All of (the Girls’ Generation members) have been keeping in touch, so don’t worry,” she told her screaming fans in the crowd.
This marks her first official appearance after her contract with Girls’ Generation’s agency SM Entertainment had expired last August.
Besides Hwang, fellow Girls’ Generation members Sooyoung and Seohyun also chose not to renew their contracts, while the remaining members Taeyeon, YoonA, Yuri, Hyoyeon and Sunny decided to continue their career with the agency.
According to Yonhap News, a representative from SM Entertainment said that the three members’ departure didn’t signify Girls’ Generation’s disbandment.
“However, since there are members whose contracts have been terminated, we will discuss the future direction of Girls' Generation with the members and make a careful decision,” Said the rep further.
Girls’ Generation made its debut in 2007 as a nine-member unit; member Jessica Jung had left the group in 2014. Its popular tracks include Gee, Genie, I Got A Boy, Tell Me Your Wish, The Boys and Run Devil Run.
