(Showbiz) Siti Nurhaliza is Spotify's most streamed local artiste this year

KUALA LUMPUR: As expected of her popularity and excellence in the local music industry, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza is named music streaming service Spotify’s most streamed local artiste of the year.

According to local news reports, the award-winning singer said this success also meant that her latest album SimetriSiti, released last May, had been well-received.

“The songs in the album show my maturity as an artiste after 21 years of being in the industry. Thank you to everyone especially the fans for always believing in my craft,” she said.

Siti, 38, added that this success showed that songs and albums’ sales through the digital platform was more favourable these days.

“The team at Siti Nurhaliza Productions Sdn Bhd always strive to find different ways to market our products.

“Despite the current trend, we still produce music CDs because the demand is still there.

“As a result, SimetriSiti was able to sell well, both digitally and physically.”

Besides Siti, the remaining local acts featured in the top 10 list of most streamed artistes are Faizal Tahir, Yuna, Malique, UNIC, Tajul, Aiman Tino, Hyper Act, Sufian Suhaimi and Projector Band.

Meanwhile, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has been named the most streamed artiste worldwide for this year.

His third studio album ÷ (Divide) is the most streamed album globally with 3.1 billion streams, while his catchy number Shape Of You is Spotify’s most streamed track of all time, now with over 1.4 billion streams.
