DESPITE his 46 years of being in the local film industry, award-winning actor Faizal Hussein has no plans to make a switch and go behind the camera to direct.
“I’m more comfortable being an actor,” said Faizal, 50, at the filming of a new cyber thriller called Proksi in Kuala Lumpur.
The actor, whose first role was to play the lead in the film Darah Panglima at the mere age of 5, said he got more satisfaction from acting in front of the camera.
“I get a lot of offers to take the director’s seat, but I had to decline all of them as I think that’s not for me,” said Faizal, who became famous after starring as Azroy in the 1986 hit movie Gila-Gila Remaja, which was directed by his late father, legendary actor Hussein Abu Hassan.
However, Faizal added that there had been a few instances when he had to take on the role of a director.
“When a director had a problem during shooting and couldn’t carry out his task, and my credibility as an actor would be at stake as a result, I had to take over from him, give my input and offer some direction. I did not want to jeopardise my reputation as an actor,” he said.
Meanwhile, Faizal was delighted to be acting alongside Datuk Rosyam Nor, who is his cousin, in Proksi.
“It has been more than 30 years since we had first acted together in Gila-Gila Remaja, I as Roy, and he as Remy. An interesting fact is that our characters in Proksi are also named Roy and Remy,” said Faizal, who added that the similarity was just a coincidence as the characters in the new film were not similar to those in the 1986 classic.
