KUALA LUMPUR: Uber popular K-Pop music group BTS beat famous international artistes like American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, Lorde (Autralia/New Zealand) and The Vamps (UK) to win the Favourite Global Music Star award at the latest 2018 Kid’s Choice Awards.
Held yesterday at The Forum in California, USA the annual awards ceremony produced by Nickelodean honours the year's biggest television, movie and music acts as voted by viewers worldwide.
The other artistes that BTS beat for the award were Black Coffee (Africa), Maluma (South America) and Zara Larsson (Europe).
Unfortunately the seven members of the South Korean music group were not able to attend the event to receive the orange blimp figurine trophy.
Made up of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook, BTS has been active since 2013 and steadily making an impact around the world, especially in America. The group had so far released five hit studio albums and five successful EPs.
The Kids’ Choice Awards, which has been running since 1988, was hosted yesterday by American wrestler and actor John Cena who is also a fan of BTS.
Cena had danced on stage at the live event to the tune of BTS’ latest smashing single, “Mic Drop.”
During an announcement segment Cena also said that his favourite BTS member was a toss between J-Hope and Namjoon (RM).
Some of the other winners during the 90-minute awards show included Fifth Harmony (Favourite Music Group), Shawn Mendes (Favourite Male Artiste) and Demi Lovato (Favourite Female Artiste).
