KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s action thriller film Tombiruo: Penunggu Rimba achieves another milestone when it has been listed as one of the finalists for Best Asian Film award by The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) 2018.

The movie, produced by Astro Shaw will compete against eight other top films across Asia, according to a database on the achievement of Malaysian films at an international level for 2018, released by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas).

The other nominees are 1987 When The Day Comes (South Korea), The Bold, The Corrupt and The Beautiful (Taiwan), Dying to Surivie (China), Gali Guleiyan (India), Newton (India), Sanju (India), Shoplifters (Japan) and Youth (China).

Tombiruo which stars Zul Ariffin, Farid Kamil, Nabila Huda, Hasnul Rahmat, Datuk M. Nasir, Datin Marlia Musa, Faizal Hussein and many others, is based on a novel of the same name by Ramlee Awang Murshid.

According to a news report by Bernama, the winner for Best Asian Film category will be announced in Sydney at a ceremony on Dec 5.

Last July at the 22nd Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) held in South Korea, Tombiruo made it into the “Official Selection” list under the World Fantastic Blue category, along with 36 other films from around the globe.
