KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian star Luna Maya’s name became the talk of the town back in 2010 for all the wrong reasons.
The actress and singer was involved in a sex video with the vocalist of Indonesian rock band Noah, Ariel, which had spread wide and fast like wildfire.
Although the rock star had subsequently served a prison sentence for his deed, the 35-year-old actress of Indonesian and Austrian descent was still haunted by the unfortunate incident.
After eight years had passed, Luna recently talked about it via an interview conducted by Indonesian actor and presenter Boy William on his YouTube web series Nebeng Boy.
Luna, who has starred in Malaysian film Tembus and released a music single Paranoid with Datuk AC Mizal, revealed how her reputation took a nosedive in the wake of the scandal.
The starlet added that she had to avoid the limelight for a while too as order to let the heat die down somewhat.
“The first year following 2010 was really hard and at the time it was also crucial that I don’t get dragged into being charged in court by the authorities. After the case was done with, it felt like everyone had left and forsaken me,” she said.
During the interview which saw her tearing up, she explained that it wasn’t just about losing job offers in the entertainment industry but also losing her close friends one by one.
“Truthfully, many big brands, TV stations and close friends had distanced themselves away from me. As an example, if I used to get 10 offers for work before, I was only getting about three or maybe four at the time. Take it or leave it, that’s the way it was,” she said.
But she took it in her stride, never gave up and picked herself up from that bad experience, vowing to never depend on anyone else.
“It gave me the motivation to start a business of my own. I would have to generate alternative income without looking to offers from TV stations or commercials and certainly without relying on anyone else,” she said during the 18-minute video clip.
