KUALA LUMPUR: Hollywood actor John Cena, 41, was recently in South Korea to promote his latest movie, the Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee.
According to Koreaboo, Cena, who is also a professional wrestler and TV host, had also talked about the ultra-popular K-Pop music group BTS, which has been making waves internationally especially in the US.
The 1.85m-tall star of Ferdinand, Blockers and Dallas & Robo reiterated that he was a big fan of the male music outfit.
On him being an Army, as what BTS fans refer to themselves, he said: “I was very taken aback when BTS asked me the question so I wanted to return the favour.”
He was referring to the time when BTS member Jimin had made a shout out to him during an episode of American show, Entertainment Tonight, by posing the question: “John Cena, are you an Army?”
Cena later replied on social media with his famous Tweet which saw him admitting in Korean that he was most definitely an Army.
During the recent South Korean interview, the host corrected his Korean. She clarified that although “army” translates to “gundae” in Korean, BTS fans are just called “Army (ah-mi)” in Korea.
Cena then quickly impressed both the host and the audience by correcting himself and proclaiming his allegiance by saying “Naneun Army da!”
As for his favourite member out of the seven in the group, the actor confessed that he is still a fan of J-Hope.
Early this year, Cena got noticed by BTS fans after he uploaded a photo of the group’s member J-Hope on his Instagram account.
During this year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, of which Cena served as the event’s host, the muscle-bound celeb was seen dancing to the tune of BTS’ hit single, Mic Drop.
When fans jokingly turned to him for help online following a chaotic incident after BTS’ arrival at a South Korean airport in the middle of the year, the wrestler replied on Twitter by offering his services as a bodyguard.
