#Showbiz: Santesh apologises over t-shirt controversy

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Santesh Kumar has admitted his mistake and apologised for donning a t-shirt with an image of an altered Malaysian flag, on a TV programme.

The 31-year-old artiste made the apology via a video which he posted on his Instagram yesterday, after the issue went viral.

Accompanying the video is a lengthy caption which read: “Dear fellow Malaysians, I humbly apologise for the incident.

“It appears that many were have taken offence saying that the image was an insult to the flag, so I am sorry.

“I don’t have any bad intentions, more so when it involves my own country. I promise that this will not happen again,” he said.

Last Sunday, Santesh who was a guest on TV3’s Senang Terhibur, was wearing a t-shirt of an image of what looked like Malaysia’s Jalur Gemilang. However, instead of the crescent which represents Islam as the country’s state religion and the star, they were replaced with the hashtag symbol.

The matter did not rest well among his fans and followers who find that such an attire only showed utter disrespect towards Malaysia’s official flag.
