KUALA LUMPUR: With the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) constantly expanding onscreen, the recent rumblings of a new project involving a less commonly known title, The Eternals, had peaked the interests of fans.
But what got them more excited was news that Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie was in talks to star in the upcoming film.
According to Comicbook.com, there was plenty of speculation on who the award-winning American actress would be playing in the film, which is about a secret race of superpowered beings created by the Celestials to have exceptionally long lives.
But in a recent news report by THR, Silicon Valley and The Big Sick star Kumail Nanjiani had also joined the cast.
In that exclusive, it was also mentioned that: “Jolie is understood to be playing the character named Sersi, a more outgoing Eternal who has not been afraid to move amongst humankind.”
According to cnet.com, Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed The Eternals yet and no release date has been revealed.
But it is rumoured to start filming this year, along with a possible Black Widow solo movie.
It would be great to see the 43-year-old Jolie, who is no stranger to playing dramatic and kick-ass characters, taking on this role of a powerful and wise woman with the experience of centuries of lifetimes lived amongst humanity.
In the meantime, the actress and mother of six children will reprise her titular role in the Disney movie sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which is set to hit cinemas in the later part of this year.
