#Showbiz: Faizal Tahir appears on Somalian TV, Netizens liken him to Karam Singh Walia

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer-songwriter Faizal Tahir is spending his Ramadan in Hargeisa, Somalia on a humanitarian relief mission.

And his first visit to the impoverished East African nation has made him a “starlet” of sorts for Somalian viewers.

This is because a journalist from Somalian television station Waraka Star TV interviewed him about the Somaliland Humanitarian Mission which he is part of. It is organised by Humanitarian Care Malaysia (Mycare).

Faizal, 41, who uploaded the interview on Instagram yesterday, said he was randomly picked by the television journalists and was not even ready for it.

“Oh my God! Mama, look I’m on Somalian television. Sekejap pun sekejap la! I was not so ready for this all. They just pulled me in front of the camera,” said Faizal in his caption to the video.

Netizens congratulated Faizal for his “newfound celebrity status” in Somalia.

Some even said that he had an uncanny resemblance to TV3’s iconic former journalist Karam Singh Walia as he wore a similar jacket to the veteran newsman who was famous for his environmental reports.

“With that jacket, you do look like Karam Singh Walia. Only that you don’t swing your arm,” said Kamal.

“That guy doesn't seem to understand you. But congrats, you’ve done us proud,” said Shikin.
