Energetic performances transcended language at the recent K-Performance Show 2019

JUMPING, flying, painting, dancing and singing! These were all part of the recent K-Performance Show 2019 at the Plenary Hall in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and all my senses were pleasantly surprised by the energetic performances on stage.

The exciting event was organised by the Korea Tourism Organisation Malaysia and its partners, KLOOK, Malaysia Airlines and Astro.

The acts JUMP, The Painters Hero, Sachoom2 with DJ Roots, VIXX Leo and T-Bird got to showcase their exceptional skills.

They were totally mesmerising since each performance featured a different kind of eye-candy for the audience to savour.

The aural elements added a charming touch to the performances as well. From unique sound effects to upbeat music, the audience experienced something different from the norm.

Comic martial arts team JUMP left me impressed and laughing simultaneously. An agile bunch on stage, JUMP wowed with martial arts tricks. I was happily caught off-guard with its comic acting interspersed with acrobatics, including cool gymnastics-like jumping and pivoting.

MEMORABLE PARTICIPATION

Dance musical team Sachoom2 also delighted the crowd with its upbeat moves.

It was soulful and we felt the urge to dance along. In line with the troupe’s tagline, Let’s Dance Crazy!, people started grooving to the moves and music. Its collaboration with DJ Roots elevated the performance to another level.

The crowd had a blast with the EDM music and K-Pop medleys during the show by DJ Roots, as the Sachoom2 team took centre stage to dance to hits from star artistes such as BTS, BlackPink, Itzy and Psy.

JUMP and Sachoom2 involved the audience as a part of their acts by choosing the wacky ones to come on stage.

There was good chemistry between the audience and the Jump actors, making the quirkiness and quick-witted antics on stage a memorable experience for all present.

The most unique art show was by The Painters Hero, which easily capturede hearts with its amazing dance routine and artistic skills.

Its painting process was a surprising one since the audience was too immersed in its dance routines to initially notice the art being drawn on stage. The elements of distraction and surprise were expertly put to good use by the creative team.

The selection of music numbers to go with each painting was also well-paired.

TEMPTING TEASER

Leo, the hunky solo singer-songwriter, musical actor and group member of VIXX, enthralled the crowd with his powerful vocals in a few musical numbers and the track, Nostalgia, from his latest solo album, Muse.

Meanwhile, the rookie boy group T-Bird provided an example of how a young Korean act can deliver a solid K-Pop performance that also showcased its own uniqueness as well.

The K-Performance Show 2019 was part of a preview of what the Korea Tourism Organisation is planning. With its new theme Korea Performing Arts Tourism, it aims to encourage tourists to check out the bustling performing arts scene in South Korea.

It is a teaser to the 2019 Daehakro Performing Arts & Tourism Festival that will take place from Sep 2 to Oct 27 in Seoul.

There are a lot of genres to choose from and even if you are not a fan of K-Pop, there are many other performances that you can surely enjoy while visiting Korea.

The snippets that I witnessed for the two days definitely caught my interest and I am already curious about the full show in South Korea.
