KUALA LUMPUR: After two seasons on the small screen, popular animated science-fiction series Ejen Ali will finally make its cinematic debut on Nov 28.
To be screened in cinemas nationwide, Ejen Ali The Movie will also meet cinema-goers in neighbouring Singapore and Brunei on the same day.
Its producer Wau Animation's chief executive officer Usamah Zaid Yasin said that the film would introduce several new characters to Cyberaya, the futuristic city where the 12-year-old secret agent protagonist lives and works.
“Viewers need not be followers of the TV series to appreciate Ejen Ali The Movie, for the boy agent's latest adventure has some fresh, new characters who are somehow linked to his family history. There will be lots of spell-binding special effects and action-packed scenes for whole families to enjoy,” he said.
Usamah also said that the animated film took two years to complete, and cost co-producers Wau and Primeworks Studios RM6.5 million. Both companies expect ticket collections for Ejen Ali The Movie to reach RM20 million.
“Ejen Ali has been a phenomenal success since it was launched in 2016. To date it has had two million viewers on TV3 and 1.4 million viewers on YouTube. It's also been very popular around Asia, reaching 50 countries,” he said after launching the film at GSC Mid Valley Megamall here today. Also present was Primeworks Studios chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar.
Among the TV channels which have screened Ejen Ali are Disney Asia, Nickelodeon India, MNCTV Indonesia and AlMajeed TV in the Middle East.
The 97-minute film sees Ejen Ali feeling unhappy that he is no longer the sole master of the Infinity Retinal Intelligence System (Iris) which belongs to his employer the Meta Advance Tactical Agency (Mata). Iris has been upgraded to Iris Neo and Ali questions his place in the espionage agency.
