#Showbiz: Mamat Khalid on the mend during MCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Hantu Kak Limah and Rock director Mamat Khalid has made "full use" of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to rest and recuperate from a series of health scares which began in January last year.

Mamat's wife Hasmah Hassan or Intan said in a news report yesterday that the 57-year-old director from Ipoh felt "much, much better" and could now perform prayers sitting down.

"Thank God things are getting better for him. He is in good spirits and can walk with a tongkat. Gone is the use of the wheelchair, which he had been riding on since late last year," she said.

"He has chosen to stay at home and recuperate. Nevertheless, doctors have told us that he needs to have a health check every month."

Hasmah said that Mamat was "a lot stronger than before" since he did exercises to strengthen his muscles at home.

"He felt soft and weak last year. But now he's regained his strength. Nevertheless, he has to take medicine for his heart ailment on doctor's orders."

Hasmah said that Mamat did not have kidney problems or diabetes.

In October last year, Mamat spent 21 days at the Intensive Care Unit of KPJ Ipoh Specialist Hospital in Jalan Raja Di Hilir, Ipoh, after complaining of breathing difficulties at home.

He had been working hard to complete his new film Enam.

In January last year, Mamat spent two months in Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya, following breathing difficulties and chest pains, and was put in an induced coma to allow his organs to rest.

Mamat was supposed to film a new, 12-episode comedy series Kampung Pisang for Astro, but work was halted by the MCO.

He has a new film, Manap Karaoke which will be screened on Astro First on May 7.
