KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Sharnaaz Ahmad is prepared to co-operate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should the agency summon him to facilitate investigation into the money laundering case by a syndicate associated with the notorious Macau Scam and online gambling.
However, the 35-year-old artiste said that so far, he had not received any directive from the authorities, even though some quarters had alleged that he was among the celebrities who would be called up by MACC.
"So far, no one from MACC has contacted me. However, whether I'm called up by MACC or not, I'm ready to give my full co-operation," he said in a news report yesterday.
Sharnaaz admitted that when the issue first broke, he had made contact with MACC to have his statement taken.
"However, I am unable to share the feedback by MACC as the matter is private and confidential," he said.
On whether the issue had affected his beverage business, the Jebat star said that it impacted the brand of the beverage more.
"My business is going on as usual and there has been no untoward incident. But I think it has affected the brand. For me, we should not be afraid if we have done nothing wrong. We were just at the wrong place and time, that's all.
"At the same time, we should never judge others until they are proven guilty by the courts. They were just called in for an interrogation," he added.
Previous news report said that two more popular artistes, who are also well-known actors and TV hosts, are expected to be summoned by the agency after no one has voluntarily turned up to give their statements.
