#Showbiz: Aida Aris nominated Best Supporting Actress at AACA 2020 in Singapore

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite never having won a trophy throughout her 26 years in the industry, it never crossed actress Aida Aris' mind to quit or give mediocre acting in each production she is in.

For the 48-year-old artiste, popularity and garnering awards were never her motivation when she first chose this career.

However, Lady Luck must have been on Aida's side as she has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress award at the upcoming Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) 2020 in Singapore, for her role as Datin Roslinda in drama series The Bridge 2.

"I'm not denying that every actor does aspire to receive some sort of validation for a job well done in the form of an award. The same applies for other jobs in various industries too.

"But I know that only with hard work, can one possibly dream of getting it. So that's what I've been doing all these years," she said in a news report today.

"I honestly didn't expect to be nominated and represent Malaysia at the awards show," she said.

"Previously, I was once listed among the Top 5 at the Anugerah Skrin. But I hope to make my country proud at AACA 2020.

"Look at the works by other Asian counties like Indonesia, Hong Kong, South Korea and India that have managed to penetrate the global market. Should The Bridge 2 win big, it will definitely create the much-needed buzz for people from outside the country to want to watch Malaysian productions," she said.

Produced by Double Vision, The Bridge 2 is up for eight nominations — Best Drama, Best Drama Adaptation, Best Sound Effect, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Bront Palarae), Best Actress (Rebecca Lim) and Best Supporting Actor (Miller Khan) and Best Supporting Actress (Aida Aris).

The crime-thriller is co-directed by TJ Lee, Jason Chom and Zahir Omar. It premiered on Viu streaming service and HBO Asia earlier this year.

AACA is an annual event held in conjunction with the Singapore Media Festival. It is organised by Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore.

While the AACA 2020 gala event has been scheduled for Dec 4 and 5, the organisers have yet to decide if it will be held virtually this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
