KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian rock band Masdo has made history by being nominated in the Best Asia Act category at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), set to take place in Manchester, England, on Nov 11.
Lead vocalist and guitarist Ali Sariah, 32, expressed surprise at the nomination, calling it a significant achievement for Masdo.
"We received confirmation of the nomination last week.
"As always, we're not expecting too much.
"Just being nominated is already fulfilling for us.
"Winning would be a bonus," he told Berita Harian.
Ali added that it remains uncertain whether they will attend the event.
The band is up against other prominent artistes, including Mahalini (Indonesia), ILLIT (South Korea), BINI (Philippines), and Sakurazaka46 (Japan).
Fans can vote for the winner on the official MTV EMA website.
The MTV EMA celebrates global music and pop culture, featuring the industry's biggest names.
This year, pop icon Taylor Swift leads the nominations with seven, including Best Artist and Best Video.
Masdo also includes members Putu Ceri on bass, and guitarist Asmawi.
