KUALA LUMPUR: Former supermodel Linda Evangelista is suing Zeltiq's CoolSculpting for US50 million (RM209 million) for "unsuccessful, corrective surgeries" which she had undergone more than five years ago.
In a recent revelation on her Instagram, the 56-year-old said that she finally decided to make the "big step towards righting a wrong that I had suffered and have kept to myself for over five years."
She added: "To my followers who have wondered why I have not been working while my peers' careers have been thriving, the reason is that I was brutally disfigured by Zeltiq's CoolSculpting procedures which did the opposite of what it promised."
She said the procedures had increased instead of decreasing, her fat cells and left her permanently deformed.
Post procedure, Evangelista had developed Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH), a risk which she was not made aware before the procedures.
Not only the condition had destroyed her livelihood, but also made her depressed and become a recluse she said.
However, according to a CNN report, Zeltiq Aesthetics, a unit of Allergan Aesthetics and a subsidiary of AbbVie, had not made any response towards her allegations.
