KUALA LUMPUR: After a six-year hiatus, award-winning singer-songwriter Amanda Imani is back with a new single.
Titled Be Mine, it went live today and has a listening time of three minutes and 45 seconds.
It also features a hip-hop segment from Colombian producer Dieggo Rocha.
"It has a fresh and dreamy sound, and the writing came naturally for me," said Amanda in a statement today.
"I really wanted to show progression from my last projects, and let the essence of the song reflect in the lyrics."
She also said that Dieggo had worked with iconic music producer Dave Isaac (Madonna, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Prince) as a mixing engineer and learnt from experienced producers such as Adam Moseley (Roxette, Lenny Kravitz and U2) and Darryl Swan (Macy Gray, Black Eyed Peas and Mos Def).
"He has done sound design and created original music tracks for several brands including Netflix, Heineken, Unicef and Discovery Channel," she said.
Amanda said that the song which she wrote and composed was in English and Spanish.
"I've always enjoyed listening to bilingual music. Spanish is such a romantic language and the idea to infuse a Spanish verse within the song seemed like a fun twist."
She added: "It was important for me to ensure that the song sounded cohesive lyrically and that we both had ample time to showcase our parts as artistes. I wanted the song to take the listener back to a moment in time, and bring out emotions of euphoria, reminiscent of young love."
Multiple-award-winner Amanda is best known for her songs Selamilah Cinta which won Best Pop Song in the Voize Independent Music Awards 2010, and Cemburu which won Best Song Collaboration in 2013.
Selamilah Cinta also won Best Original Song at the 20th International Discovery Music Festival in Bulgaria (2011) and Best Local English Album at Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) 2010.
