#Showbiz: More foreign companies to film at Iskandar Malaysia Studios

KUALA LUMPUR: Iskandar Malaysia Studios (IMS) is welcoming more foreign production companies to film at its premises, to boost film production in the country.

Its chief executive officer Rashid Karim said that IMS in Iskandar Puteri, Johor had state-of-the-art facilities to enable several films to be filmed at the same time.

"We have had six clients at the same lot at the same time. We are ready to increase activity here, and we have lots of capacity and have also received lots of filming requests lately," he said in a news report yesterday.

Rashid added that IMS had a 20.23-hectare studio area, and this included 2.43 hectares for new structures to be built.

"We have great potential to be a regional filming destination. In terms of costs we are very competitive, likewise incentives for clients and skilled crew members," he said, adding that IMS had a strategic location in the region.

Rashid is delighted that his company has been invited to participate in the French film market Marche Du Film 2022 in Cannes, France.

"It's great to be back in Cannes again after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19. We plan to improve our networking with foreign partners and reintroduce Malaysian cinema to the world."

Marche Du Film is the world's largest film market and the business counterpart of the annual Cannes Film Festival.

This year's event involves 250 countries from 110 countries, and lasts nine days beginning May 17.
