KUALA LUMPUR: The mischievous twins who dare to dream, Upin & Ipin, now have a new musical, and it is set to travel the world.
Les' Copaque Productions Sdn Bhd's iconic animated brothers are starring in Teater Muzikal Upin & Ipin — Pin Pin Pom! which will premiere at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Jalan Pinang here in September.
The original musical will also visit Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei, and Les' Copaque hopes to bring it to London, the United Kingdom and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia later.
Les' Copaque managing director and producer Burhanuddin Md Radzi said that his dream had "finally been achieved".
"At last, we've brought our dynamic duo to the musical stage for the second time, for two nights beginning Sept 3," he said in an interview with Berita Harian Online today.
"After that, the musical will visit Singapore's Indoor Stadium in December, and Indonesia and Brunei early next year."
Burhanuddin added that taking Upin & Ipin on a world tour would expose cartoon lovers to Malaysia's homegrown animated heroes.
"If people around the world love Walt Disney's cartoon heroes, it is now time for Upin & Ipin!"
Burhanuddin said that Upin & Ipin — Pin Pin Pom! was a sequel of sorts to Teater Muzikal Upin & Ipin which was staged at Istana Budaya in 2012.
"That musical was a success, with 30 performance slots in a month. It also entered the Malaysia Book Of Records."
The new Upin & Ipin musical is directed by Siti Rohaya Atan and uses state-of-the-art technology, such as a LED screen and special effects.
The hour-long musical features popular songs by the mischievous twins such as Gembira Bermain and Upin & Ipin Berani.
It will also feature new animated characters such as Pahlawan Magik Upin Ipin and Nenek Kebayan.
Co-produced by Les' Copaque and Star Fortress Sdn Bhd, it will have three daily slots at 11am, 3pm and 8.15pm.
