KUALA LUMPUR: In celebration of Disney+ Hotstar Day, Disney and Pixar's original series Cars On The Road will debut exclusively on the streaming service on Sept 8.
The new series follows sports car Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (Larry The Cable Guy) as they head east from Radiator Springs on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater's sister.
In a statement today, the series' director Steve Purcell said: "Cars On The Road is a romp across the country with Lightning McQueen and Mater. Like any real road trip, every day is a new mini-adventure with unexpected twists and turns."
Produced by Marc Sondheimer, the series' episodes are directed by Purcell (Episodes 1, 2 and 8), Bobby Podesta (Episodes 5, 6 and 9) and Brian Fee (Episodes 3, 4 and 7). Composer Jake Monaco created the score for all nine episodes.
Cars On The Road is a spin-off of the Cars animated film series created by John Lasseter. The franchise began with Cars in 2006 and was followed by Cars 2 in 2011 and Cars 3 in 2017.
The films follow the racing career and adventures of Lightning who is passionate about the sport, and learns important lessons about the makings of a true hero when he befriends various cars along his journey to stardom.
