KUALA LUMPUR: Member of popular K-Pop group EXO, Xiumin, released his debut EP Brand New yesterday which has topped the iTunes albums charts in 33 territories.
According to Allkpop, the dashing idol's first mini album had gone to No.1 on the iTunes album chart in Malaysia, as well as in 32 other countries including Canada, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Thailand, Hong Kong and more.
The EP contains a total of five songs, namely the titular track Brand New, accompanied by B-side tunes Feedback, How We Do (featuring Mark of NCT), Love Letter and Serenity.
Soompi reported that the new release was a turning point for the 32-year-old South Korean artiste.
"I think this will be a turning point for me to grow to another level. Like the album name Brand New, I worked to showcase a new image," said Xiumin during an online press conference yesterday.
He added: "I wanted to prepare a gift-like album for EXO-L (EXO's fans), who have waited a long time for me."
"As this first solo album wholly captures my tastes, it's meaningful to me, and I called it a 'gift' in the hope that it will become an album that makes you feel good about experiencing my new image," he said.
Talking further on the title track, Brand New, Xiumin revealed that, "It's a song from a genre I had wanted (for my solo debut)."
"It's got bright energy and is incredibly catchy, so I thought it's a song that suits EXO's Xiumin well," he said.
The EP is Xiumin's first solo album release since he made his debut as a member of EXO back in 2012.
