KUALA LUMPUR: Suga of international K-Pop sensation BTS turned 30 today, and in celebration of his birthday, the rapper made a generous donation to aid Turkiye and Syria's earthquake relief efforts.
According to Soompi, the non-governmental organisation Save The Children revealed that the BTS member had donated 100 million won (about RM342,900) to help with the emergency relief work in Turkiye and Syria after being hit by severe earthquakes.
In a statement, Suga said: "So many children and families have suffered a great loss from this earthquake."
"My deepest condolences to the survivors and victims.
"I hope that this provides at least a bit of help to the children affected by the earthquake.
"And I hope this (donation) is used to provide relief goods for them," he said.
Suga's donation will be utilised by Save The Children to help procure winter blankets, mattresses, school supplies and various other necessities needed in the affected regions.
This is not the first time that the talented idol has made donations during his birthday celebrations.
Suga has previously donated to wildfire victims, pediatric cancer patients, Covid-19 prevention efforts and more.
On Feb 6, Turkiye and Syria were hit by two catastrophic earthquakes followed by another two disastrous earthquakes later in month.
BTS' agency Hybe responded to the initial tragedy by donating 500 million won (about RM1.71 million) to Save The Children, while the K-Pop outfit's members J-Hope and Jimin contributed donations of 100 million (about RM342,900) each to the Korean Committee for Unicef.
