KUALA LUMPUR: The attacks against Anomalist Production, the company responsible for the controversial film "Mentega Terbang", are escalating on social media.
A visit to their Instagram account today showed more than 40 comments slamming or threatening the production team in their latest post, which was a casting call for a new film.
Some of the comments in the post included "God will punish you", "May you repent for your sins", "You invite apostasy", "Government, please take action against them" and "Brainless".
Yesterday, it was reported that two cars belonging to the film's director, Khairi Anwar Jailani, and screenwriter, Arjun Thanaraju, were splashed with paint and acid.
The duo also received death threats, with notes reading "You and your family must die", "Mentega Terbang, don't challenge Islam", and "Remember (this), Mentega Terbang family".
Khairi and Arjun have filed separate police reports at Kajang and Ampang police stations.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil strongly condemned the threats against Khairi and Arjun, stressing that Malaysians must follow the law and avoid taking matters into their own hands.
"Mentega Terbang", previously available for free viewing on digital streaming platforms, has faced strong objections from Muslims for allegedly including elements of religious pluralism.
