KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actors Datuk Ahmad Tarmimi Siregar and Chew Kin Wah have been nominated for Indonesian entertainment awards Piala Maya.
The awards' Instagram page revealed its 2023 nominees for each category on Wednesday, and Ahmad Tarmimi was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Perjalanan Pertama while Chew for Best Supporting Actor for Cek Toko Sebelah 2.
Chew previously won Best Supporting Actor in 2017 for the same role in Cek Toko Sebelah.
Cek Toko Sebelah 2 is a comedy film about Koh Afuk (Chew), a widower who runs a family-owned store.
Perjalanan Pertama is a drama about an elderly ring crafter (Ahmad Tarmimi) who takes his grandchild on a journey to rekindle his passion for his craft.
Chew is known for his supporting roles in acclaimed Malaysian films such as One Two Jaga and Prebet Sapu. He first found fame playing the country's first Finance Minister Tun HS Lee in 1957 – Hati Malaya in 2007.
Ahmad Tarmimi has had a 50-year-long career with roles in films as Abang, Pemburu, Mekanik and Embun. He also hosted the popular 1980s game show Tekaria's second season.
Piala Maya began in 2012 to honour Indonesia's best local productions. This year's event will be held in Jakarta in December.
