KUALA LUMPUR: Rock band Search's latest drummer is only 17 but has greatly impressed rock lovers with her power-packed performance at Konsert Nusafest 2023 in Bandar Malaysia yesterday.
She is Naimi Daini, a secondary school student from the federal capital who will be sitting for her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination later this year.
While only a sessionist, Naimi displayed the chops of a true professional and many fans of the legendary band hope that she will become a full-fledged member once she completes her studies.
Search bassist Nasir Daud said in an interview with Harian Metro Online yesterday that Naimi was diligent, dedicated, disciplined and humble, and had been performing alongside vocalist Datuk Amy, guitarists Hillary Ang and Man Kidal and himself for more than a month now.
"She is doing a splendid job for a teenage musician and we hope to make her a full member someday. However she wants to focus on her studies for now and that is perfectly okay with us," he said, adding that Naimi was able to strike a balance between drumming and studying.
Nasir added that besides Naimi, Search also had popular drummer Arthur Kam, the brother of keyboardist and music director Genervie Kam, perform in some of their concerts and showcases.
