#Showbiz: Good Vibes organiser gives The 1975 seven days to pay up RM12.3mil

KUALA LUMPUR: Aggrieved Good Vibes Festival 2023 organiser, Future Sound Asia (FSA), has demanded that recalcitrant British pop rock band The 1975 pay more than RM12.3 million in damages over the recent fiasco that led to the cancellation of the 10th edition of the long-running event.

The unbecoming behaviour of the band's frontman, Matty Healy, was the cause for the festival to be shut down by the government.

FSA's legal counsel David Mathew of Steven Thiru & Sudhar Partnership informed NST that a letter of claim had already been issued to the offending band.

"In the Letter of Claim dated Aug 7, 2023, Future Sound Asia has demanded that The 1975 admit their liability and also pay the sum of £2,099,154.54 (RM12,347,967.91) within seven days.

"Future Sound Asia's claim against The 1975 is mainly for intentional breach of contract.

"It is the position of Future Sound Asia that Band's actions contravened the contract to perform that was signed with Future Sound Asia.

"Further, Mr Healy's representative categorically provided a pre-show written assurance that Mr Healy and The 1975's live performance 'shall adhere to all local guidelines and regulations' during their set in Malaysia.

"Despite this, the assurance was ignored."

David added that they would now wait for a response from the band or its representatives.

"If there is no response from the band or they do not comply, legal proceedings in the Courts of England will be the next step."
