#Showbiz: Soo Wincci to serve as professor at Chinese university

KUALA LUMPUR: Artiste-turned-academic Dr Soo Wincci, 38, will be serving as a professor at the University of Nottingham's Ningbo campus in China next year.

Wincci, an artistic production lecturer at the Malaysian Multimedia University (MMU) said in a news report yesterday that she did not want to be tied down for long periods at any one educational institution and preferred to teach at different locations.

"I'm off to China next year but for now I'll be serving MMU for a year.

"I've got to be in China before I turn 40 because that is the requirement for academics at their universities. Right now I'm in the final phase of my job interview."

Wincci is also exploring the intellectual property market with the aim of encouraging young Malaysians to make money from the use of such property.

"The Covid-19 pandemic of the last three years enabled many of us to explore the intellectual property sector which is becoming increasingly lucrative.

"Malaysians can become translators of international books and journals as they are great linguists," said Wincci.
