#SHOWBIZ: Doh wows fans [WATCH]

K-POP star Doh Kyung Soo painted the town "sky blue" during his maiden solo fan concert, BLOOM, at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, recently.

Sky blue was the official dress code for the concert and his fans dressed to the nines to see their beloved idol.

It was a significant moment for his fan base given that Doh, also known as D.O, last came to Malaysian shores as part of his popular boyband, EXO, during the EXO PLANET #4 The ElyXiOn Tour in 2018.

The 31-year-old singer expressed his excitement for the opportunity to meet his fans, although he admitted to being nervous when standing alone on stage.

The concert, organised by UnUsUaL Entertainment, kicked off right on time at 6pm and Doh chose to open the evening with his song 'Mars' from his latest mini album, 'Blossom'.

FAN INTERACTION

After his first song, Doh was taken to a platform in the middle of the stage, where he interacted with fans for more than an hour.

This was when Doh unpacked the reasons behind his floral-themed Asian tour, whereby everything circles back to the title of his third mini album.

Doh received cheers for every move he made, especially when he greeted the crowd in Malay with a simple "Apa khabar?"

Three lucky fans were also selected at random to take a photo with Doh at a distance, where he stood on the stage while the camera zoomed in on the selected fans for a photo opportunity with the singer.

LOCAL DELIGHTS

The first portion of the fan concert included Doh answering questions prepared by fans and impromptu singing of songs requested by them.

He also spoke highly of Malaysian delicacies, namely roti tisu, which he was "delighted to see" as he had never seen anything like it.

"Another food I like is murtabak. It has a similar taste to Korean 'hotteok' and it's nice to know I can find something similar to home in Malaysia," he said excitedly.

'Hotteok' or Korean sweet pancake, is a popular street food in the country.

PLAYING A VILLAIN

Doh, who also dabbles in acting, has appeared on variety shows. His latest movie, 'The Moon', in which he played an astronaut, earned him Blue Dragon Film Awards and Grand Bell Awards nominations.

He teased fans with a K-drama that he will star in, titled 'Sculpture City'.

"I will be playing a villain. It will be my first time being a villain, so I am excited," he said.

SLOW SERENADE

The second portion of the concert was when the crowd was able to revel in Doh's tunes and his mellow voice.

He kicked it off with a bubbly number, 'Simple Joys', before moving on to 'That's Okay' and 'I Do'.

In total, Doh sang 10 songs that highlighted his steady vocals.

He apologised to fans as his songs were mostly slow tunes and made a promise to produce uptempo beats in the future.

Other details on his upcoming album were kept secret, though.

GRATEFUL TO FANS

At the tail end of his show, Doh sat on the floor in the middle of the stage and watched a video made by his Malaysian fans.

Despite being a K-pop star, Doh still seemed like he couldn't believe that he was able to amass a large number of fans in Malaysia.

He showered fans with words of gratitude.

He closed the show with the fan favourite, 'Popcorn', and promised to come back to Malaysia.

Doh will cap off his tour with a three-day concert at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul from Oct 11 to 13.
