#Showbiz: 'The Host' actor Byun Hee-bong dies

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran South Korean actor Byun Hee-bong has died at the age of 81.

According to Soompi, the unfortunate news of the actor's death in Seoul on Monday was announced by a representative of his.

It was also reported that Byun had died while fighting a resurgence of pancreatic cancer.

Born in 1942, Byun began as a voice talent before becoming an actor in 1970 and has since appeared in numerous feature film and TV productions.

Some of them include Volcano High, My Teacher Mr. Kim, To Catch A Virgin Ghost, The Devil's Game and The Spies.

Byun was also a frequent collaborator with celebrated Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho having appeared in four of the Academy Award-winning director's films.

These include Barking Dogs Never Bite, Memories Of Murder, Okja and The Host, for which Byun won Best Supporting Actor at the 51st Asia Pacific Film Festival.
