#Showbiz: 'Postponing drama a reminder for controversial artistes'

THE Malaysian Television Producers Association (PTVM) welcomes the decision by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) to postpone the broadcast of a drama involving a scandal-ridden actor.

PTVM president Datuk Jurey Latiff Rosli said RTM's measures were appropriate and this would be a lesson for problematic artistes.

"PTVM supports RTM's initiative to ensure the industry is well regulated as there has been heated sentiments towards artistes. RTM's actions are timely.

"We want to remind industry players, especially artistes, that everyone should maintain good moral standing and behaviour.

"We don't want issues to arise when the drama is aired, which can affect its reception.

"PTVM hopes this will teach production companies and crews to take care of moral issues.

"This is so that when a drama or programme airs, it will not affect the good name of the industry," he said in a recent news report.

Jurey said this was a reminder to artistes that they could not do whatever they wanted.

"Maybe they don't care about what they do, but they need to remember that they are public figures.

"They should think ahead and always try to present a positive image to the public.

"Don't use the excuse that it is a personal matter. You are a celebrity and you have influence. What you do will get attention."

RTM director-general Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman had announced the postponement of the airing of a drama involving a problematic artiste.

He said moral and social issues involving actors were considered before dramas they star in can be aired on national television.

He said RTM did not want to ban artistes and would use softer approaches, like providing counselling and psychological help.
