KUALA LUMPUR: Fly FM is playing US hip-hop singer Macklemore's Hind's Hall for 24 hours today in support of calls for a ceasefire in Palestine.
In a statement yesterday the English language radio station said that it was taking a bold stand for a ceasefire in Palestine with the unique takeover campaign.
"From 7am on June 5 to 6.59am on June 6, the station will exclusively play Hind's Hall by Macklemore for 24 hours straight.
"This initiative aims to amplify awareness and show unwavering support for Palestine," said the statement from Fly FM.
The campaign includes special segments that encourage listener participation. Several artistes will come on air to discuss the issue.
Fly FM content director Sean Matjeraie said that the radio station was increasing its efforts to raise awareness about Palestine's struggles after receiving overwhelming support from listeners
"We aim to push this initiative further and increase the intensity of awareness.
"By dedicating an entire day to Hind's Hall, we hope to turn passive listeners into active supporters and give a stronger voice to the call for a ceasefire in Palestine," he said.
Macklemore's latest song, Hind's Hall, pays tribute to a six-year-old Palestinian girl, named Hind Rajab, who was killed by Israeli forces while seeking help from the Red Crescent Society for about three hours on Jan 29.
The song title is also a reference to Hamilton Hall, an academic building at Columbia University, which was occupied by student protesters in late April.
The university authorities had threatened them to call off the pro-Palestine protest or face expulsion.
The US hip-hop singer is among the most outspoken celebrities, criticising the US and his music peers for their silence on the atrocities committed against the Palestinians.
