#SHOWBIZ: Singer Wann's mother dies

KUALA LUMPUR: The mother of famous singer Wann Rashidah, Junaidah Shaari or Miss June, 73, died at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) at 4.46pm yesterday.

According to Harian Metro, Wann, who now resides in Singapore, was grateful to have been able to return from the Lion City with her younger sister, Wan Intan Suraiya, to be by their mother's side at the end of her life.

"Thank God, we are here, the two of us with my sister. We had time to look after my mother at the hospital," she said briefly.

Meanwhile, the younger sister of the singer, Wan Samirah Meor Abdul Rashid, said that her late mother had been suffering from stage four liver cancer for a long time.

"It's true that the doctor told me that mom wouldn't last much longer. Last night was the last time I massaged my mom.

"Mom's body will be brought back to the PPR Sri Aman surau in Jinjang and is expected to be buried at 11am at the Batu Lima Islamic Cemetery on Jalan Ipoh (behind the Sungai Mas shopping complex)," she said.

During her lifetime, the late Miss June was the most important person as Wann's manager who saw her gain success at that time.

In addition to Wann, her two other children who also recorded albums were Wan Salmiah or Hawa and Wan Samirah or Wann Kecik.

Miss June leaves behind her husband, Meor Abdul Rashid, and seven children.
