KUALA LUMPUR: Growing up, actress Diana Danielle said she experienced a difficult childhood, having to move multiple times with her mother who was a single parent.
"I come from a very humble background. We once had no home and had to stay with family and friends.
"My mother was unemployed for two years and there were times when we had to move 11 times in a short period, (where) I just carried my backpack.
"I was around 10 to 12 years old (at the time).
"My mother fell ill and lost her business. We really had no money at all and couldn't even afford an RM1 packet of nasi lemak," said the 33-year-old on a podcast hosted by Deborah Henry on YouTube.
The experiences, she said, were among the reasons why she took acting seriously.
The Imaginur film actress also said the experiences have made her grateful to live a modest life without chasing material possessions.
"I realise that material things are just materials, money is just money, (and) everyone wants to be a millionaire.
"I'm against that (lifestyle) as it becomes a distraction.
"That's why I think people become stressed because they can't meet society's expectations of us," she said.
