KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) has a groundbreaking initiative called Generasi DFP in support of Malaysian music and arts from September to November.
In a statement yesterday, DFP said that Generasi DFP aims to provide a platform for singers and songwriters, and aspiring musicians to come forward and showcase their undiscovered talents.
"This initiative was launched in March and garnered a strong interest from all over the country and a total of 100 audition videos were received from soloists and bands, with the performers aged between 18 and 30 years.
"Through a selection process by a panel of professionals, 15 bands and soloists were shortlisted to present their debut concerts at DFP.
"They bring various music genres which surely will add a variety of artistry colours on the DFP stage."
The shortlisted solo artistes are Fadzly, Syiqin Azln, Ruhil Ariana Wilson, Ee Vone, Ruebben Chelvan, Dekwa Cuwa, Amrita Soon, Khalyn Mulyani, Jo Lixian and Mardiana, while the selected bands are Meruked, LOKO, Saiko Rama, Cherry On Top and Sounds Like Sunday.
They are performing in three series of concerts.
The first Generasi DFP concert was presented on July 24 and featured Fadzly, Syiqin, Ruhil, Ee Vone and LOKO.
The next Generasi DFP concert is at 8.30pm on Sept 25 in DFP, KLCC, Kuala Lumpur and will feature Amrita, Dekwa, Ruebben, Cherry On Top and Saiko-Rama.
Seremban-born Amrita is a singer and songwriter who was bestowed the Breakthrough YouTube Star at the recent Digi Awards.
She gained fame when she co-wrote the theme song for a local movie Rain Town released this year.
She has performed in concerts and gigs in the United States, China and Japan.
Ruebben is a singer-songwriter who has released his debut EP titled Live A Little and singles Like Nobody Else and Tell Me Softly.
He has performed at gigs around Kuala Lumpur and the United States.
Dekwa found fame when she covered songs with her brother and uploaded them on YouTube.
She has performed on TV and participated in singing competitions.
She has produced singles such as Sembunyi Hati, Trauma and Kala Sang Suria Tenggelam.
Founded last year, Cherry On Top is a progressive rock band of six talented musicians. It has just released an EP of five songs with its debut single Ketagih, a duet with Datuk Syafinaz Selamat.
Rock is the root of its music with fusions of pop and R&B elements.
Saiko-Rama which hails from the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia was formed in 2019 with five musicians.
It was during the pandemic from 2020 to 2022 that the recording process of its debut EP took place.
All tracks especially Sekali Lagi and Aku filled the band with gratitude and confidence to move forward in the music industry.
The next Generasi DFP concert will be on Nov 20 and will feature Khalyn, Jo, Mardiana, Meruked and Sounds Like Sunday.
