KUALA LUMPUR: Popular Korean actress Han So-Hee's mother was recently charged with operating 12 illegal gambling houses.
Yonhap news agency reported on Tuesday that officials confirmed that Han's mother, identified by her surname Shin had been arrested.
The houses were located in Wonju, 90km southeast of Seoul, from late 2022 to late last year.
Shin had operated the sites under someone else's name, using gambling websites to operate them.
Police are investigating the sum of illegal proceeds pocketed by Shin in her venture.
The actress' agency stated that she was "indescribably miserable" over the news and that the case had nothing to do with her.
The actress has been estranged from her mother for a long time and as a child, was raised by her grandmother.
