KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Sam Baharom of rock group Bunkface is deeply concerned about the dangers posed to children by "predators" on social media.
He advises fellow artistes to keep their youngsters "barely visible" on Instagram and Facebook, to make sure that they are safe.
"Not that our kids should not appear on social media, it is their right to have social media accounts, but as parents we should monitor what they post too," he said at a press conference to announce Bunkface's coming concert at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), KLCC here yesterday.
"We can have our children post photos and messages on social media, but it isn't wise to have them share their daily activities because it might invite unwanted "visitors".
"It is best that their posts be limited to occasional ones, such as birthdays and festival greetings for example.
"It is also good for their social media accounts to contain nice photos of places they visited, or the lyrics of songs that they like," said Sam, who is a father of three.
Sam, 36, saluted celebrities who only post photos of themselves with their children for special occasions, such as Merdeka, Hari Raya and New Year.
"Many young talents with social media accounts only post photos of their latest television programmes or movies. Their accounts are monitored by their parents or managers."
Bunkface's DFP concert will be held at 8.30pm on Sept 28.
