KUALA LUMPUR: The late legendary composer and pianist Datuk Ooi Eow Jin's funeral service will be held at the Nirvana Memorial Centre, off Jalan Sungai Besi here at 9am on Saturday.
Yayasan Kebajikan Artis Tanah Air (YKAT) chairman Datuk DJ Dave said in a statement today that fans and friends of Ooi, who died at the age of 86 in Kuala Lumpur Hospital yesterday, could pay their last respects at Nirvana from 2pm to 10pm daily.
Ooi's funeral service will take place at 10am on Saturday, and the cortege will subsequently leave for cremation at the Gui Yuan Crematorium in Jln 51A/229, Section 51A, Petaling Jaya.
Ooi died at the hospital at 3.30pm yesterday.
The musician is best known for collaborating with some of the country's greatest singers including Tan Sri P. Ramlee and Datuk Sudirman Arshad, and was one of the "titans" amongst Radio Televisyen Malaysia's (RTM) music maestros.
Ooi had been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease since 2015.
Ooi performed with the RTM Orchestra, as a composer-songwriter in the 1960s and 1970s.
In 2010, he became resident pianist at Kuala Lumpur's Majestic Hotel for five years until the illness forced him to quit in 2015.
Ooi is survived by his wife Datin Elaine Khaw. Their son Raymond died at 58 in 2022.
