Brand new band Cherry On Top is made up of young and talented musicians, but they are confident of letting their creativity shine through despite being the children of popular figures in the music industry.
Eager to step out of the shadow of their respective parents, the group consists of guitarist Yamani Abdillah, female vocalist Adriana Audrey Michael or Holy, drummer Ayen Tommy, guitarist Didi, bassist Bobo and keyboard player Kuzan.
The band's leader, Kuzan, whose real name is Raja Hifzhan Shah Raja Mohd Sham, said five of them are students majoring in music at the National Academy of Cultural Arts and Heritage (Aswara).
"We formed this band because of our common interest and compatibility in playing music together. "We have also known each other well since our fathers are also active with their artistic careers.
"We have come up with a progressive rock sound for our first studio album, where all the songs were created by all of the members of Cherry On Top," he said in a recent 'Harian Metro' report.
The band has only been together for a year in the industry, and Kuzan understands it's not an easy task to manage a group made up of different personalities with various ideas to share.
"But, Alhamdulillah, so far we all understand each other's roles and respect one another.
"This is because all of us in the band are serious about pursuing a career in music career and we need to work real hard.
"What's more, our families, especially our fathers, all support our interesting music and always remind us to practice hard in playing and delving into music if we want to achieve success.
"We also try not to use our father's names or popularity and we've been working on our own to be noticed and accepted for our talent," he said.
Kuzan is the eldest child of RTM orchestra musician Raja Sham or Kusham, Yamani Abdillah is the son of Datuk Jamal Abdillah and Ayen Tommy is the son of Wings' drummer Black, while Didi and Bobo are the sons of the manager for the group Def-Gab-C.
Cherry On Top, which used to be known as Rock Ages, released its debut studio album in early August.
The album contains songs such as 'Mengintai Rahsia', 'Menunggu', 'Resolusi' and the duet with Datuk Syafinaz Selamat, titled 'Ketagih'.
