KUALA LUMPUR: Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao, 37, and his wife and long-time manager, Summer Lin, 51, threw a wedding banquet last Saturday (Oct 13), just a few days shy of their first wedding anniversary on Oct 19.
8Days reported that the wedding, which was held at Taipei Marriott Hotel, reportedly "cost millions" to pull off.
Called A Gathering Of Family And Friends In The Name Of A Wedding, the celebration saw a huge turnout of close friends from both inside and outside of showbiz.
Among the 600 guests were the who's who of Taiwan showbiz like Chang Hsiao Yen, Shu Qi, Jacky Wu, Matilda Tao and newlyweds Joe Chen and her husband.
The flower girls and boys were made up of the couple's godchildren including Alyssa Chia and Xiu Jie Kai's daughters, Angelina, Bubu and Bobo, Kelly Lin's girls Kaitlin and Mila, and Yvonne Lim and Alex Tien's kids, AJ and Alexa.
The couple met in 2007 when Jam took part in reality television singing competition One Million Star and secretly dated for 16 years.
Jam's father thanked his in-laws for giving their daughter to the Hsiao family.
He then turned to the couple and said the words newlyweds fear most from their parents.
"Your father is getting old. You should have a son. You must have hope," which made the couple burst into laughter.
Netizens had the same sentiments, with many questioning if Summer's body could handle pregnancy at her age, and suggested surrogacy or adoption instead.
Some also felt that such remarks from elders put unnecessary pressure on couples.
"Older generations always hope for grandchildren, which can create pressure," read one comment, while another said: "Talking about having kids at 50 is awkward."
Summer had previously shared her thoughts about having kids, saying it was something she and Jam had discussed many times.
"For us, whether we have kids or not, it would be out of love. But ultimately, it's a choice, and not a mission. Please don't worry about us," she said.
