#SHOWBIZ: Aliff, Ruhainies remain silent after court proceedings

KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial artistes Aliff Aziz and Ruhainies chose to remain silent after their appearance at the Federal Territories Syariah High Court in Jalan Duta, here, today for a hearing related to their khalwat (close proximity) case.

Despite being met with numerous questions from around 30 media representatives, both actors declined to comment and proceeded to the court's administrative office, where they handled matters regarding Aliff's bail.

Ruhainies was the first to leave, accompanied by her sister, Risteena Munim. Aliff followed 10 minutes later.

Earlier, the Syariah High Court had set Feb 20 and 27, 2025, as the hearing dates for the case involving both celebrities.

Syarie Judge Abu Suffian Abu Yaziz confirmed the dates after both parties agreed.

The prosecution, represented by syarie prosecuting officer Masroha Duki and Mohd Nahar Mohamad from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi), confirmed that case documents, including a list of witnesses, had been submitted.

Additionally, the court granted Aliff permission to appoint a new guarantor after the previous guarantor, Muhammad Nur Aiman Zainul Ilyas, who is also Ruhainies' brother, withdrew due to work obligations.

On July 3, both Aliff and Ruhainies pleaded not guilty to charges of khalwat under Section 27(a) and (b) of the Syariah Criminal Offenses Act (Federal Territories) 1997.

If convicted, they face a maximum fine of RM3,000, up to two years' imprisonment, or both.

The case stemmed from an incident on March 9, when Aliff and Ruhainies were arrested at a luxury condominium based on public information.

Both actors were later released on bail after being questioned by Jawi.

Aliff, previously married to Bella Astillah, divorced in June. The former couple have two children, Mohamad Ayden Adrean, 7, and Ara Aadreanna, 4.
