KUALA LUMPUR: The girlfriend of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, Kate Cassidy, has revealed that Payne planned to marry her before his tragic death.
Cassidy shared that Payne had written a note predicting they would be married within a year, just weeks before his passing, according to BBC.
In a heartfelt tribute posted on Instagram on Wednesday, Cassidy, a US influencer, expressed her grief over Payne's sudden death after falling from a balcony in Argentina on Oct 16 at the age of 31.
"A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together," Cassidy wrote.
"I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it. It said, 'Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever.'"
Cassidy also shared a series of photos, including one of Payne's handwritten note.
Reflecting on their relationship, she wrote, "Liam, I know we'll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You'll always be with me. I've gained a guardian angel."
Cassidy, who had been dating Payne since 2022, was in South America with him days before his death, though she had returned to the US by the time of the accident.
In her emotional message, Cassidy described Payne as the love of her life, saying, "I don't even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can't put into words. You brought so much happiness to everyone around you."
She continued, "Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I've lost the best part of myself. I can't imagine a day without your laughter and love."
Payne's sudden death has led to an outpouring of grief from fans, friends, and family worldwide.
His father, Geoff Payne, is currently in Buenos Aires, where authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death before his body is returned to the UK.
