KUALA LUMPUR: The drummer of indie punk rock band A.C.A.B, Azizul Fitry or Zul, suffered a heart attack during the 30th A.C.A.B Final Concert at Zepp Kuala Lumpur last night.
Zul, 49, collapsed while performing the third song, approximately 30 minutes into the show.
He was resuscitated by an on-site medical officer and is currently receiving follow-up treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
According to A.C.A.B's lead singer and guitarist, Megat Hafiz, Zul had no known history of heart problems, though he occasionally experienced shortness of breath.
"Alhamdulillah, Zul has regained consciousness and is being treated.
"He showed no signs of illness before the concert, and this was his first heart-related incident," Megat told BH Online.
The concert was momentarily halted as medical personnel performed CPR on Zul, whose heartbeat had stopped.
Megat initially thought Zul had dropped his drumstick but quickly realised the severity of the situation when he turned and saw Zul on the floor.
After a 20-minute pause, the band resumed the performance with Irfan, a former A.C.A.B member, stepping in as drummer.
Irfan had previously recorded with the band for their 2004 album Bangun.
Formed in 1994, A.C.A.B is credited with pioneering the Eastern Oi! music genre in Malaysia.
The band's final concert, themed Bring Back the Bootboys, marked the end of their 30-year journey.
The event brought together original members and included a special appearance by European band Haymaker.
Zul joined A.C.A.B in 1995, replacing former drummer Black.
Over the decades, the group gained international recognition for their distinctive style and hits like Skinhead 4Life, which became an anthem worldwide, even inspiring covers by bands in Europe and Latin America.
Megat plans to visit Zul in the hospital today and expressed gratitude for the quick response of the medical team, which he believes saved Zul's life.
"It was a shocking incident, but we had to continue the show. Zul would have wanted that," he added.
